Aside from brewing and drinking the coffee, how can I tell if I am over-roasting my beans? I had trouble with underdeveloped beans before but now I seem to be overdoing it as when I do make coffee with my roasted beans, it tasted burnt!

You likely are burning them. If you are doing a darker roast, this can be hard to tell at times. Some beans will appear burnt but taste fine. When are you removing them? Are you waiting for the second crack?ย

I assumed I do them until there is not cracking sound left. Similar to the popping of popcorn. Is this wrong? If so, then yeah I likely am over doing them a bit!ย
