It turns out that paper coffee cups, much like paper straws - are more toxic for us and more toxic for the environment.ย
I recently heard about the straws so my guess is this lead to people investigating cups as well. I use reusable when possible. Most coffee places do offer them and will fill them instead of using disposable cups.ย
A recently published study shows that paper cups can be just as toxic as conventional plastic ones if they end up littered in our natural environment. Seemingly eco-friendly paper cups are coated with a thin layer of plastic to keep their contents from seeping into the paper, and this lining can emit toxic substances. โThere are chemicals leaching out of these materials,โ says lead author Bethanie Carney Almroth, an associate professor of environmental science at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden.

Wow, I had not heard of this. I was not aware about the paper straws either. I am not sure why everyone wants to move away from plastic. Just cut back on it and offer more glass options. I think it was a mistake moving so heavily away from glass.ย

I know, right? Glass is so much cleaner and healthier for everyone too. And so easy to recycle and reuse over and over again. Plastic is cheaper and more lightweight which is the only two reasons I can think of why a lot of products come in it these days.ย

There is an argument for plastic and I think certain items are fine to come in it but drinks and such, especially hot drinks should be served in glass. I think if everyone would get on the same page with littering and recycle properly, we would have no issues. I went to Japan 7 or so years ago and even their crowed city areas are perfectly clean without litter.ย
